Proactiv solution – An introduction

Proactive is one of the famous (although older) anti acne products used in the US. A careful review of each of the components of Proactive reveals that almost all of the components and ingredients used in Proactive are general, typical and bear standard quality. The three part Proactiv system is mild, but because it is repeated twice a day, every day, it is effective. By sending you products every two months, the company encourages you to continue using it (after all, it’s already paid for) even when you don’t have a breakout. This helps prevent new acne, which is better than treating pimples you have. However, for long term, Proactiv can be expensive. The active ingredients in Proactiv can be purchased separately for less money than if you paid for the Proactiv brand.
Exposed Acne Treatment

Proactiv solution – Components or steps

Like other typical anti-acne products, Proactive solution consists of the following three components or steps:

1-    Skin renewal:  By means of its medicated renewing cleanser, Proactive supposedly kills acne-causing bacteria on contact. Furthermore, its small exfoliating beads gently eliminate dirt, debris, excess oil and dead skin cells to help keep pores from clogging in your skin once again.

2-    Skin revitalisation: By means of its refreshing, alcohol-free toner, it is thought that Proactive works to remove impurities, sebum and excess oil so that your skin looks and feels clean, soft and refreshed; not tight and dried out. In addition, the soothing botanical agents swiftly balance your skin tone.

3-    Skin repair: The repairing acne treatment composed of an oil-free formula  is a feather-light medicated treatment that gets deep into clogged pores faster but is designed to be gentler on the skin.

Proactiv solution – Ingredients

Unlike some of the best-selling acne care treatment solutions such as Exposed Skin Care, Proactive is mainly composed of artificial or synthetic ingredients such as:

Benzoyl peroxide (BPO): Works as a strong anti-bacterial but can cause skin irritation or allergy in some cases

Glycolic acid: It works by exfoliating dead skin cells to help keep pores unplugged

Witch hazel: It acts as an antioxidant (helping to prevent free radicals and the damage they cause), as well as an astringent (shrinking and tightening pores to keep dirt and bacteria from getting in).

Proactiv is not one of our recommended acne treatments. Our most recommended acne treatment is Exposed Skin Care!

Pros of Proactiv

  • 24/7/365 online support
  • Automatic shipments (the consumer / user chooses frequency)
  • 60-day money back guarantee
  • Different components to specifically address various aspects of acne such as pimples, dryness, infections, scarring and healing

Cons of Proactiv

  • Consists of typical, standard components with more emphases on synthetic ingredients than the natural, herbal ingredients
  • At times, twice daily application of each of the three components becomes a really bothersome task for the acne-sufferer. So, in total, you have to apply the different components of the system at least six times a day
  • May dry out skin (BPO effect)
  • It can also bleach linens and towels
  • Results are not usually seen until and unless the whole system / product is used for several months and on consistent basis
  • Relatively expensive, as compared to other products used in acne such as “Exposed Skin Care”
  • No complete list of all ingredients is currently visible on the official website
  • It does not come with additional benefits such as “anti-aging” feature. On the other hand, quality products such as “Exposed Skin Care” do offer such additional benefits in addition to their specific anti-acne action.

Final verdict on Proactiv solution

All in all, considering and comparing the benefits versus risks and advantages and drawbacks of Proactive system, it can be easily and clearly concluded that while Proactive does seem to work in some cases, its safety and effectiveness in all the cases is still not established. Also, multiple daily applications for long term can be quite bothering for the acne patient and will also result in huge expenditure of money. It’s worth noting that there are a number of quality acne systems on the market, and you might want to compare and contrast before settling on Proactiv in particular. Therefore, you should look for a kit that includes some combination of cleanser, toner or astringent, and lotion. Again, you should be sure to follow up with an oil-free moisturizer to rehydrate your face after each use. One of such effective, economical and safe complete anti-acne and skin care system is “Exposed Skin Care” that clearly comes out as a superior choice that is only safe and effective but will also save you a lot of money.

First off, the stuff didn’t even work. You can find something ALOT better for about a third of the cost of proactive.

Second, they make it VERY difficult to cancel. Actually, I couldn’t even cancel it at all even after calling them at least 3 times. Ofcourse they say that you’re account has been cancelled but they still charge you every month regardless. I’ve had to go through my credit card company to dispute all of this.

Do NOT buy this product. Don’t buy into their advertising. It’s all a big marketing scam.

Yeah… You’re not totally right with that Mike and you need to monitor your account cause they like playing with your money.
Just recently they took two payments out of my account without sending me anything and had the nerve to tell me what they won’t do and how long I have to wait to get my money back….
I promise you they are nothing but a big scam, whether or not the product works, I am yet to receive any so I wouldn’t know, all I know is my money is missing.

Our family actually found the product to work but we found the website to be a night mare to use and even though a product had not been shipped they would not let me cancel a future order. I had to go through my credit card company to stop the charges. According to customer service they cannot access the processing center and claim they can’t cancel the order. In checking with our Attorney General Office this is illegal so don’t just give in if they say they can’t cancel your order. Evidently I am not the first one to contact them in regards to this so if there is a problem report it also and maybe we can get this changed.
When I told Proactiv I would be disputing the charges they didn’t care.
As far as the product, no complaints, as far as how they run the company, the worst ever!!

This EXACT thing just happened to me. I meant to check my account before i called them but didn’t. I called to cancel and they said the charges had already been applied and the shipment already processed. They would send a return postage and i could send it back. I had to wait 5-7 business days and it would be refunded to me. I waited. I got the package yesterday but no postage. I looked on my account the $27.99 never got processed, instead there was 7.99… while it’s not a huge charge, $8 here and there adds up. (Mind you this is the one after my first month supply). I called today and she said the last lady refunded the $60 instead of sending the postage. I have to wait another 5-7 business days. This is BS.

Also, I agree with lots of other people: This stuff works the same as Neutregena or any generic of Neurtregena as well as an exfoliating scrub. Same results….

I ordered the teenage proactiv kit, which came with the basic stuff plus something for acne on your shoulders. It did not work for me. I wanted to wait a few months to see if the stuff would work, so I moved my shipment frequency to every 90 days. Well apparently when you do that they ship you a 90 day shipment which is 3 times the cost of the first one. So, I was charged TWICE for a shipment I returned, it would be 3 times if I didn’t stop it. (I had already asked for my account to be cancelled) It had been a month and they told me they still have not received my package. I found the tracking number, and sure enough they received it about a month ago. FINALLY I get a refund issued that I haven’t received yet, and I lose $10 because their “money back guarantee” does not cover shipping. ON TOP OF THAT, they are EXTREMELY hard to get in touch with. And there is no option to cancel your account or stop your shipments, so you have to contact them. I just went to a dermatologist and got much better results, they know what is best for your particular skin type. PLEASE STAY AWAY!!!!!! THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY!!!!!

Reply

Anonymous September 9, 2012 at 7:58 pm

Also, there is no way to ship your product less frequently. When you change it for 90 days, they still charge you for a 90 day supply. And it’s WAY too much product for the time they give you to use it… So…..They get your money either way!

I totally agree with you. I just got off the phone with their so-called customer service. I told the rep that I wanted to cancel the order, after they charged my card 50 bucks. She so rudely tried to sell me moee product! I couldn’t believe it. Finally, after telling her 3 times that I don’t want anymore charges on my account, she said she would cancel it. So then I tell her to send me a confirmation that my account is cancelled, she says she has to transfer me to an automated recording to give me the cancellation confirmation, and that it will ask me for my credit card number, but not to give it. (Doesn’t make sense to me either). She then hangs up on me. They have lost me as a customer and my trust. They should care a little bit more about their customers, and not rape them of their money. Now I have to send the product back and wait 4 to 6 weeks for a refund. Unbelievable! They already have my money and now I have to fight for it. I will never buy it again and I will tell anyone never to consider it.

I was very excited to use Proactive. After a month of using it, my face started to breakout even more. So I gave it another week, then I eventually called to cancel my package. They were quick to cancel my next package, however, a month later they were still charging me on my card. I was very upset because I’ve already confirmed to me they have cancelled it. I had to argue with them but the ladies that work there are very rude and will attack you! I recommend not to purchase any PROACTIVE SOLUTIONS products, it is not worth your money and is another scam. They are in a run for your money. If you dare to try it, good luck because they will charge you regardless you account was cancelled. I was charged additional fees and when I complained about the additional fees they stated, “We do not see that in our system.” It just makes you more upset. They obviously don’t care, all they want to do is argue. PROACTIVE=NEGATIVE!

So I started using Proactiv about six months ago. It worked wonderful at first. Then it stopped working, and when I stopped using it, I broke out far worse than before. Not to mention, their customer service is TERRIBLE. I can’t stress that enough. I have called and cancelled twice already. After the first time, they still charged my account even after I sent back the product. They said they’d fix it and all was well for about 2 months. About two weeks ago, I got charged AGAIN and when I called they said they had no record of my cancellation but they would credit my account once they received the return product I haven’t even received yet in the first place. And tonight, they charged my account AGAIN and I was charged over-draft fees. This is after me calling in TWICE to make sure my account was cancelled.

So in short, if you are thinking of using Proactiv: DO NOT DO IT. IT IS NOT WORTH YOUR TIME AND THEY KEEP CHARGING YOU AFTERWARDS. Plus, the product works in a way that your skin becomes dependent on the product and when you don’t use it, your skin gets WAY worse.

I ordered proactive a few months ago. It worked for me, but I did not know that I would keep receiving it every 6 weeks. I cancelled it and kept receiving. They are refunding those packages but they wont pay for the shipment. I also found another version of Proactive at Walmart that might not be the same quality, but worked as well. I will NOT recommend Proactive to anyone.

I paid 19.95 for first shipment then i was charged 27.95 and got a second ship ment i called them and told them to cancel my account was told i agreed to 3 payment and that is a lie so i told them to cancel my order and was still charged 19.95 and have been told i would get a refund they are a rip off company do not order any thing from them and never give them your card number .

Gabe September 26, 2013 at 8:24 pm

Hate to tell you, but Proactiv is right. Proactiv divides the payment to three monthly payments. You actually pay $19.99 (or more if you added products) every month after they ship you a Proactiv kit. Next time, take the time to read.

I tried it, decided it just wasn’t for me, and am now going through h3ll for it. I was charged for a second shipment without consent or even knowledge it was coming. I cancelled my account the next day and refused that package when it arrived. It has now been over a month with no “money back guarantee.” Sure, if the money comes ever, they can still say its a guarantee but don’t count on it. It has been over a month now with no reimbursement for an authorized charge and I have called to inquire why this is, only to be put in an endless loop of avoidance multiple times. When I do get to speak to a competent human among the rest, I am just told to wait longer. This is the worst example of customer service I have ever seen and will do my best effort to insure that that no person I ever have known goes through this darned process. Nothing but another scam.

I purchased my daughter liked the product. What I don’t like is that 2 months later they sent my another package, charged me for it. I did not realize that they automatically set you up on a program. This is bull. I just wanted to try it. I will not order from them anymore. If I want their product I will order from QVC or another source. Oh the best part is that once I mail the package back it will take 4 to 6 weeks to refund me. It did not take them that long to take it out of my account. Beware when order from them. Read all the fine print more than once.

I think everybody here summitting this comments are right. They’re are very abusive, first they give you this nice deal of 29.99 then they send another shipment which would last you 3 months. However a got 2 shipment the same month of $100 including the $10 shipment. So, 2 shipment of $200 in one month and I still haven’t finished the one of 29.99. I call them and they said someone put that shipment in my account, that’s not true. I am the only one using the computer, now I have to send back those to shipment and pay the shipment fee and I’m not sure I will get my money back on the orders I will return. Please think twice before you get more stress with them. They are very abusive!

HORRIBLE!!! Their customer service is from medevil times. I ordered the fantastic (not) $19.95 deal and was disgusted at the tiny little toddler size bottle I received. The package barely lasted 2 and a half weeks (scam). Then I called to cancel the shipments and request a refund as my face looked like a Dominos special. I was informed that it would take 4-6 weeks for the refund process. It has been close to 8 and I am still waiting… They tried to compensate my problem by offering the SUPER solution with 8% benzocaine to help, big mistake. That solution ripped my olive skin apart. I had a “live chat” with a rep and she assured me that the $29.95 teen set would help a lot. It did for the first week and then back to pizza face. The dark spot corrector is glorified water based sludge. I requested 2 months ago to be taken off auto ship and today I received a bill for $100.00!!!!! So much for the GREAT price of $29.95 and free shipping. STAY AWAY AND IF YOUR ACNE IS THAT BAD INVEST IN SEEING A DERMATOLOGIST. This company has created a formula for a general population. The movie stars that promote the product are a joke too! Pancake makeup can cover even the nastiest lies!!

Don’t buy this product. Their offers are systemetcally designed to charge you every month for something that you have not ordered. I opted for a trial offer of $20 and received a pack. After using it for the next 3 weeks, my face looked worse, acne was actually increasing. Then I was charged another $32 and another pack was sent. I didnt ask for this and after calling 3 times I still couldnt cancel and get a refund. I am looking at my account today and seeing another $19.95 charged!! Called them now and they say they cannot stop the charges but I insisted!! This is a scam, so be aware and don’t buy this product. I am looking in to filing a legal claim if I don’t see a credit from them next week.

Like all of the reviewers, I experienced the same horrible customer service and charges. The first shipment I received was in September and I paid $29.94 for it. This was the “30-day supply.” I used it for about a week and my skin was breaking out and itching all over, so I stopped using it. I was charged $27.94 in October and received another shipment, and then I called them the first week of November to cancel. First, the customer service rep was not listening to what I was saying because all she did was try to upsell me on more products and said that my skin breaking out was a sign that the Proactiv was working. I started to lose patience with her and she tried to close the conversation until I asked for my 60-day money back guarantee. I asked if there would be a confirmation email for my cancellation and she said no (however, I did end up receiving a confirmation email)…She was annoyed with me and started to be rude, and when I tried to ask another question, she hung up on me. So today I looked at my credit card statement and I was charged $19.95 AFTER my cancellation date so I decided to submit an online inquiry, which did not get submitted at all, so I called the customer service line. Same type of rude service and she explained the 90-day supply I received, which is why I’m being charged the $19.95 and a future charge of $19.95 would be in December to complete the 3 payment installment. As long as I returned my products by mid-December, I would get my refund minus the shipping costs. As soon as I started to ask another question, she hung up. Of course, it would take 4-6 weeks to see my refund. Customer service by far is the worst I’ve ever experienced!!!!

Emina November 27, 2012 at 12:28 am

WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!!!
Took them 2 in half months to ship the product out. Talked to so many representatives and they had yelled at me because they couldn’t do anything about it. I got a different answer everytime. So rude. I have never seen worse customer service before. Plus, Proactive didn’t want to reimburse me for being late on my order.
They need to fix this or they will lose customers.
They just lost me as a customer and I’ve been ordering multiple times.

I ordered proactive in jan 2011. The treatment worked pretty well, I almost never got pimples, it didn’t work very well on blackheads and they were sending me too much solution that wasn’t getting used. I called to cancel my subscription after 6 months (two 90 day treatments). I specifically asked if I would be billed a cancellation fee, the representative I spoke to said I would not be charged and he would send me a free refining mask since that was the only thing that worked well. December 2012 I get a call from collections for $73.00 and they told me I had never cancelled my subscription! I’m not sure if this is proactive’s issue or Guthy Renker. In any case they had no record of me even calling their support center. Are you kidding me?!?! This multi million dollar business can’t keep track my my calls or cancellations or orders. This alone will prevent me from ever purchasing proactive again.

katie November 29, 2012 at 6:37 pm

Proactiv really does have the WORST customer service I have EVER experienced. After entering the wrong address and waiting two weeks they ‘corrected’ the problem and said it would 7-10 more business days. After three weeks I call to see why I have not received my shipment and they say it was never shipped out! When I try to cancel the order they connect me to someone else who says I had just told them to ship out the order and they can’t cancel it! Clearly I was on the phone and did not tell them to ship it out, I told them to cancel it! This happened 10 minutes ago so I am still a bit angry that a company like this can exist when they treat their ‘customers’ so wretchedly.

Amber November 29, 2012 at 6:40 pm

Proactive did work for me. I got my face clear within the first week I used it. The only reason I will probably not use this product again is because it dried out my skin horribly! It burned after I did my regiment, left my face red, and constantly dried out my skin. Even lotions wouldn’t work. I would suggest this product if your face isn’t sensitive because it did clear up my acne.

Sometimes it wouldn’t come on time or even at all and they’d still charge me, it was ridiculous. They’re whole online ordering, mailing situation is too much of a pain. And even though its way more expensive I’d rather buy it at the mall or something just so I don’t have to go through those problems again!!!

Proactive has the worst selling strategy and customer service. They use scam to force selling their product. I tried their small size product, and then received a 3-month kit with $73 payment request, even I didn’t order that. I called their customer service and experienced the worst and most horrible conversation, the lady even didn’t hear anything you said and kept repeating that if you bought their product, you signed up for membership. Here are a few tips to help prevent and quickly clear up acne breakouts using natural,
organic skin care products:1) Wash your face gently two times per day with warm
water and a mild soap such as a goats milk soap. Flaxseed is
a good choice. You can also run the product that you are interested in with your family doctor or dermatologist.

First off, I’m in my early 20′s and have combination type skin with occasional, mild to moderate acne. I used nearly two whole ProActiv systems before switching to the Citrus Clear Acne kit and have found that this clears up my skin much better and faster. I find it very convenient & I would recommend anyone with my acne/skin type who is thinking about subscribing to ProActiv to try Citrus Clear first.

Anyway, the Citrus Clear kit lasts around 3 months for me.

I ordered this crap. After using it for about a week, my face was red from it. It burned everytime I used it (which I applied it exactly as the directions said). It did not do anything to improve my acne. Then, without my knowledge, they charged me for another shipment of it. I called to say that not only did I not like this stuff, I would not accept them charging me for more without my consent. I told them that was called theft. They refunded me for what I had ordered and said that they would send me postage to send the unauthorized order back. That was a few months ago and I haven’t received anything. So I was charged over $40 for something I did not want, and never got the refund for it. For me, it did not work. It may for someone else. But even if it does work, they basically steal your money. You will continue to get charged until you get into a battle with them to stop sending you any more, and trust me it’s not easy. It’s a load of crap. DO NOT BOTHER WITH THIS COMPANY!!!! Neutregena has a face soap that actually works. Turn to other alternatives if you need something for your face. This company is nothing but trouble!!!

I had always wanted to give Proactive a try. There seems to be a lot of hype surrounding this product so I figured I’d give it a shot – and I was HUGELY dissapointed. It doesnt work and irritated my skin – Im a natural girl!

I had a problem with acne on and off for years. Proactiv did not work, but the Citrus Clear brand did. I used the Citrus Clear Acne Wash and I did not expect this stuff to work so well in a month’s time, much less the 10 days it took to completely wipe out my acne. 10 DAYS NO ACNE WITH CITRUS CLEAR. I am so impressed and my face hasn’t looked this clear in years.

I wish I would have read these reviews before I bought for my son. He says the product itself was OK…but their customer service will keep me from ever buying from them again! Such a scam. When you order from them, it automatically signs you up for monthly charges and product. When I call, the rep was so rude. Telling me it was my fault. I listened to her, but when I told her I wanted to cancel my membership I was not even aware I had, she said she was sorry, but I was going to be billed for 2 more months and no product…WHAT?!? I was so angry, I had to put husband on the phone and he finally got supervisor who agreed to reverse charge and delete membership. I will keep an eye on our account!

I was charged over $50 that i had to pay in advance, then charged me $40 for 3 months after WTH AFTER i canceled??? I hate you proactive your name just puts an ill tast in my mouth. My bank even called them as part of a fraud resolution on the disputed charge and they LIED TO THE BANK and said I never canceled and am still an active member!!! What BS this is after canceling multiple times with multiple confirmation calls!! PROACTIV is a POS company to deal with. A true world class slum shop!

I’ve been using Proactive for almost a year. At first, the product was really effective. Everyone close to me noticed my clearer complexion because I used to have really oily and had a lot of pimples or acne.

But I had stopped using it after 6 months because the product wasn’t working on my face anymore. After a month I decided to start using it again, I noticed that my acne or pimples got worse. My cousin experienced the same when she also decided to use proactive again after a few months of not using it.

I don’t if you guys have the same problem as we do but I guess we will not use Proactive anymore. I’m forced to go to a dematologist to get my face checked.

This product may work, but I would recommend buying it in person at the mall. Customer service is terrible! They cannot track your shipment, thay cant tell you when it will arrive and they cannot cancel it. They don’t tell you when they will charge your bank account or the amount. And they are rude if you cancel the account. Trust me. Buy it in person instead!

Bought this product – of course i got fooled with the commercial that says it works. Few weeks later, I received another set – and yes, I was happy thinking its free. Checked my bank account later then saw a CHARGE OF $99.98. WHAT? FOR WHAT?! YOU FOOL PROACTIV! DID I EVEN ASK YOU TO SHIP ME A NEW ONE? NO!
Called and canceled and was given a confirmation number. But ops, here we go again they sent me new one, got CHARGED again and over and over again. SHAME ON YOU PROACTIV!
Do I really have to call you guys 5x, ask for cancellation and also keep calling my bank to reverse me the money that I know should be mine? DO YOU REALLY HAVE TO LIE AND FOOL PEOPLE TO BE RICH? SHAME ON YOU PROACTIV AND WHOEVER OWNS YOU!

What a hassle! Even if the product were great (which our results were not) I would not give them a credit card number again. We have tried for 6 months to get off the direct ship plan and the charges keep rolling in. Our neighbor had the same experience. All I get when I call is an ascent saying “thank you very much” even though I am upset. Of course you are thankful; you are ripping me off.

That’s the kind people proactive plus hires who hangs up on their customer when it was their own freaking mistake what a customer service the have, im so pissed right now I of course had to call back and got a nicer gentleman and cancel everything I don’t ever want any proactive product ever. That’s stupid b@#ch really needs to find another job or learn how to talk to customers.

I decided to try ProActive in the beginning of the year, so I ordered a kit. After that first one I noticed that it didnt work, but they sent me a second one without me asking for it about a month later. Not only that, but they took my money from my account without my authorization. About 2 months after, I called to tell them I wanted to cancel & I wanted them to stop sending me kits without my saying so. So the guy I spoke to told me not to worry about the 60 day thing because of my situation & because I didnt know that they automatically did that. I told him I would send the two kits back that day in the post office, and he said I would get a full refund as soon as they received my shipment. I did everything the way he told me to do it when sending it back. I asked him how long before I would see the refund, and he said to check sometime in November. Its the end of November now and I haven’t received anything back, so I called them only to find out that they wont give me back my refund! If I had known this, I wouldn’t have gone out of my way to send it back!! I did everything that guy told me to do & paid for shipping it back, and this lady at ProActive even acknowledged over the phone that they got my two kits back but wont give me back my refund !! Now that I know these people are so incompetent… liars, unprofessional, and dont care about what they tell their customers,… I wont refer anyone to them. I will make sure to make them look as bad as I can so that no one has to lose their money the way I did. I had told a couple of friends of mine about it and they were going to order from them. I made sure to send them a text about this problem before they fell into the same hole. Now I’ve lost almost $200 because of them.

They are liars and cheats, promising a 60 day money back guarantee, then denying the package ever arrived even though the only addresses on it were both theirs. Telling me credit had been issued then lying to the credit card company and using false information when I disputed the charges. NEVER GET INVOLVED WITH THESES CROOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never had a worse customer service experience than with proactive. NEVER ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY. They automatically sign you up to get expensive shipments and they are extremely rude on the telephone. Online customer service is useless as they will just tell you to call the phone number, which only works part of the time. When someone does answer, they are horrible to you.

We ordered proactiv for our son. He developed a rash and discontinued the product. Next month another order showed up without US knowing that they would keep sending every month. I called and cancelled my account after they charged me two months of installment payments. They agreed to refund US the installments and cancel my account. Now after a month I get another charge on my account from them.I called and had to speak to a supervisor to finally get somewhere with them. We will see in a couple days if I finally get my refund. I do not recommend this company. They like to play with your money. Pinga.

I actually really like Proactiv. I’ve been using it for about 10 years and find it to work like nothing else!
Not sure why all the negativity about this product.
People here say it’s harsh??
Actually what is harsh is prescription drugs used to treat acne.
Antibiotics and accutane????
Stay away from prescription drugs.
Eat clean non processed foods and use proactiv and your skin will be in great condition.

I have been using proactiv plus for a little over a month now, and I actually have already seen great results. My skin has cleared up a great amount. I would love to continue using proacitv, however, I have experienced probably the worst customer service I’ve ever had. During my first order, I was misinformed about the amount I was going to be paying. They told me I would be paying $39.95 for this kit, and then get charged every 3 months for another kit. False. They are charging me $39.95 every single month, making the actual amount $119.85. I called to discuss my disappointment to one of their representatives, and again I just had someone talking in circles rather than being completely honest with me. Once I finally got the chance to talk to a supervisor (whom was not friendly towards a paying customer) he finally said he will send me step 1 to make up for the confusion. I still wasn’t completely satisfied, but decided to continue. After a few days, I received a confirmation e-mail saying my package was delivered, yet it was delivered to a different address. I called to talk to another representative (nicer than the others I’ve spoken to) and explained my situation. She said they will send something in the mail that I need to fill out claiming I didn’t receive the product, then they will re-send the product. So at this time, I know have to wait about two weeks to receive this product, yet none of their staff seems sympathetic whatsoever. I have never submitted a complaint to any company, but after working in customer service for several years, I find myself being very unsatisfied. At this point I am looking for a different acne system that will be cheaper than this, only because of their terrible customer service. If it wasn’t for that, I would definitely continue using this product.

ONE order was placed; THREE accounts were opened in my name (not realizing this until after receipt of shipments). Called Customer Service for return label (TWO) and cancellation of the THREE accounts. Notified my CC company to stop payment on the TWO accounts. Accounts escalated to collections – 2.5 years later I’m still fighting them!

I have also put this on their FB page: AWFUL EXPERIENCE WITH THEM – WARNING – worst service ever. They will lie and take your money. I received the wrong order and called them immediately and told them they sent me the wrong one. They admitted to the mistake and apologized and told me to send it back to them. HOWEVER – I would have to PAY for the return. I said I should not be responsible for their mistake. After hours of arguing and no solution I called my credit card company and they gave me the credit after their own investigation because found PRO-ACTIVE AT FAULT!! 3 months later they send me a notice that they have sent my bill to a Collection Agency. Imagine that!!! called them and the rep said to me he could send me a return label. I said ok…but it was past the 60 day return and I have to pay full amount for the product and they cant take the unopened box. BEWARE – they are very dishonest and will not take responsibility for their mistake. THEY HAVE PLAYED WITH MY LIVELIHOOD BY SENDING A FALSE REPORT TO THE COLLECTION AGENCY. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING AN ARTICL TOGETHER FOR THE NY TIMES – TO BRING TOGETHER THIER SCAM AND ALL THE OTHERS THAT HAVE REPORTED PROBLEMS WITH PROACTIVE.

The customer service support team is AWESOME when you’re placing an order. However, when you call them and advise them of what I thought was a valid complaint, it made me more aggitated that the people who work in Customer SERVICE know little or NOTHING of what the term is supposed to mean! When I ordered the product on Friday that just passed, I was charged shipping and handling of $5.95 for a 4-7 day delivery. I was surprised to find an email waiting in my inbox this evening dated Wednesday, March 12th advising me that my shipment was just sent out…when I contacted Useless Support (my new pet name for Proactiv Operators) two separate individuals were of no use. Although the first contact was very apologetic but could not assist me “because the systems were updating and wouldn’t be available for a few hours”. She added that I should call back at that time. The second contact (coughBRUCEcough) was just plain stuuuuupid. I won’t bore you with nonsense all I’ll tell you is that my shipping charge entitles me to receive my package in a 7-10 day business day period! I work in the financial service industry and if I provided customer service like this to my customers, I’d be on the unemployment line looking for another job. It is very unfortunate that I have not even received my package, but I don’t even want it now. It will be returned and I will contact my credit card company and have all of the charges reversed.

If Proactiv can hire useless, people that I had unlucky pleasure of speaking to this evening, then their product must be just as bad. Good luck to those who have had a better experience that I had.

Guy said he would send another package to me which i dtated i will be moving in 1 week so go ahead and send to my new address. I then told guy that product doesnt seem to work that great but i wAnt to stick with it to see if it would improve over time. I asked about the other products advertised on tv to see if they would work better for me, guy uninterested in telling me about other products and instead just told me its more than im paying now. Then a month later still never recieved product called to finally cancel my whole account. Guy informs me it was sent. I told him i still never recieved it and asked what address, for which he tells me my old one!! Guy sounded very lazy on phone uninterested. I cancelled my account. I dont have time for a company that doesnt listen to me.

I bough Proactiv on their website a week or so ago paying with PayPal.

When you buy your first set they WILL SIGN YOU UP FOR MONTHLY PAYMENTS AND SUPPLIES without asking (or maybe they do in 8pt font in the disclaimer or something). If you don’t pay attention they’ll charge you 100 dollars without asking 1 month from when you buy your first set to send you the biggest set they have without consent.

On top of that I was personally billed twice on my PayPal, they refused to acknowledge it, the lady at customer care was utterly useless, didn’t know what PayPal was and basically laughed at me.

I had to resort to opening a case on PayPal, prove I only bought one to get my 45$ dollars back.

I wanted to try Proactiv to help with my acne and previous acne scars. So I went online and purchased the 19.95 package which is shown to last 30 days. My plan was to see if it works and then order more if I liked it. So, I try it for almost a month and absolutely NOTHING changed. The only difference I seen, was the fact that my skin felt softer after I would apply the treatment, but only IMMEDIATELY after. So, I decided not to reorder. Then, I get a delivery of a whole new package. I check my bank statement and see they had taken about $25 out of my account. So, I call and speak with a man at proactiv and ask why I received another kit and why I was charged without authorization. He stated that by taking the 30 day kit, I was agreeing to receive 3 more shipments as a 90 day supply. I went off, because for one, there was no information about this when I ordered. (Even though he claimed up and down there was) Furthermore, the disclosures state that you can cancel anytime, and also they have a 60 day money back guarantee. So, I asked the man to cancel my account and he stated that I would not receive any more packages, nor continue to be charged. He even offered my money back for the unintended package if I sent it back in. I told him I would keep the package and give it to my sister who wanted to try it, as long as I was not sent anything else or my account charged. He agreed. About 2 weeks later I receive an email stating that I owe $50.00. I had switched my bank account number, so they were unable to get any money out of me. I called them and emailed them over this issue and told them what I had been told, as well as the fact that it’s unfair that they are lying to customers saying you can cancel at anytime with no penalty, and that if I had known I was going to be charged for 2 packages, I would have opted to at least receive them. They refused to help me and told me that it’s just the way it is and that when I got my 30 day kit, I was agreeing to fulfill these charges. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS CRAP, THEY ADVERTISE THESE OFFERS ON TV WHICH HAVE A CATCH TO IT. YOU ARE BASICALLY SIGNING AN UNAUTHORIZED AGREEMENT TO PAY $100 REGARDLESS OF CANCELLATION, AND REGARDLESS OF YOUR LIKING OF THE PRODUCT. THE ONLY WAY TO AVOID BEING CHARGED IS TO CANCEL AND SEND BACK YOUR ORIGINAL 30 DAY SUPPLY. OTHERWISE, YOU ARE CONSENTING TO PAY FOR 3 OTHER SHIPMENTS EVEN IF YOU CANCEL DURING THAT TIME. Now, they are threatening me with collections. I told them to skip the collections and send me straight to court so I can provide documentation showing that they’re scamming liars. I hope they go out of business. The people on their website and the celebrities on tv are “hired on” to share success stories. I know several people who have tried proactiv and it did not work for any of them. It was a complete waste of money and time. I’ll be seeing them in court.

I have been using proactiv for over a year and I love it. It cleared my face and I don’t even have to use it everyday. I use it maybe every 3 days so my face won’t dry up. My face cleared up BIG time since I started using it. I go to the mall and buy it when I need to restock instead of buying over phone. I hear a lot of people complain about that! I really recommend using proactiv to get rid of acne.

ProActiv a while back and it was not a pleasant experience. My skin burned, itched, turned red. And on top of all that, it was abnormally dry [shocking because I've never had dry skin in my life].

I desperately needed something to get rid of my acne [which was located mostly on my forhead area] … ProActiv was terrible, as I mentioned before. So I decided to buy Neutrogena Advanced Solutions, and this was the best decision ever. I noticed results as soon as 2-3 days. My acne is all gone now.

This is a great product. Since I don’t have enough time in my schedule, this product was great. It’s only 2 steps, whereas ProActiv was 3. My skin is great right now, I love it!! I totally recommend this product. You may be wondering why I’m giving this 4 stars, the reason is because it DID cause a bit of dry skin, but it is not severe, it went away by itself.
